My name
is Becky. I was born in Eatonville, WA and have lived here all my life. I
am the oldest of three kids, one brother and one sister. I live across the
street from my parents and next door to my grandparents. My whole family is very
close and I love to spend time with them.
I graduated from Eatonville High School in 1996 and started working at a daycare. I worked there while I started attending Pierce College. After getting my Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education and Arts and Science I stopped working at the daycare. I got a job teaching preschool at the Ashford Cooperative Nursery School. It was a lot of fun and a wonderful experience. I worked there for three years until it had to close. That is when I started working at Eatonville Childcare and Montessori School, now known as Eatonville Early Learning Center. I have been working here almost six years now. It is very exciting and fun to watch the children learn each day.
I started out teaching preschool and moved to the pre-kindergarten classroom about four years ago. I have a Montessori teaching certificate from Green River Community College. I find the Montessori Method very interesting and enjoy using it in my classroom. My class also uses a reading program called Read Well. It is the same program that Eatonville Elementary School uses. It is a great program and the children enjoy using it. We also work on grace and courtesy along with simple everyday activities such as pouring, spooning, tying, buttoning, etc. I have a lot of materials for the children to use to help them learn hands-on.

We will be
doing very messy projects in our classroom. I have aprons for the children, but
they still manage to ruin their clothes. I suggest sending your child in play
clothes that you won’t mind if they get stained. Second hand stores or yard sale
clothes are best to send your child to school in. There are times during the
year when your child will be expected to dress up, and on those days we will not
do messy activities.
Every now and then a child will get so busy they forget to run to the
bathroom, so accidents happen. Please bring an extra set of clothes for your
child to keep at school. I will put them in a clear plastic bin with your
child’s name on it. If your child has to change their clothes it will be your
responsibility to replace his/her clothes in the bin.
We will go on
field trips during the school year. The van we have can transport only 13
children so, I will ask for parent volunteers to help by driving their own
child. We have a lot of fun, and it is a great opportunity for you to spend a
special day with your child.
A child’s behavior is determined by many factors. Any kind of change in
the life of a child is a big factor. If there are any changes going on in your
life, please let me know. You don’t have to share details, but it helps me know
in advance how a child might be feeling so that I might better teach them.
Each week we
will be doing things associated with the letter for that week. Your child may
bring 1 or 2 small things to share with the class that start with that letter of
the week. Throughout the year, we will have class parties for certain letters
also. For example, a teddy bear tea party for T, and pajama party for the letter
P. I send notes home the week before the party to tell you all about it.
